Op-Ed from CEO Brandi Colander in Greater Greater Washington

Capital should serve DC communities. Here’s how DC Green Bank is using it

By Brandi Colander, CEO of DC Green Bank

Over the past eight years, DC Green Bank, where I am CEO, has invested $90 million in energy-efficient affordable housing, solar energy, resilient infrastructure, and stormwater retention projects across all eight wards of the District.

Our investment has attracted nearly $1 billion in additional investment. For example, when DC Green Bank provided a $2.6 million loan for a community solar project on V Street NE that cost a total of $20 million, our loan encouraged an additional $17.4 million in investment

On top of that $1 billion, the DC Property Assessed Clean Energy program (PACE) has facilitated an additional $600 million in financing for energy-efficient construction projects. These investments have created or preserved more than 1,100 affordable homes and generated more than 7,000 jobs.

These aren’t just data points. They represent families with lower utility bills, workers with steady paychecks, and communities with greater stability and opportunity.
